CA Sedation Regulations Approved - and DOCS OSD Now Approved!

We received great news twice this past week.  The first was that the regulations in CA finally went through as planned - 25 CE and 1 Live Patient Experience.  Then just today, we received a letter stating that our OSD course (along with live patient procedure)  has been accepted and approved.

If you have taken this course and the live patient you can now send in your permit applications and apply for your Adult Oral Conscious Sedation permit.

Click here for a direct link to the application: http://www.dbc.ca.gov/licensees/app_ocsa_ocs3.pdf

Should you have questions on the permitting process or need any other help - please call DOCS and let us know what we can do!

Re: CA Dental Board Denied me Conscious Sedation License

    Hello,

I just received a note from CA Dental Board in response to my application for Conscious Sedation License. I had applied for the license based on the email I received from DOCS attorney in Dec 2007, around Christmas time. That email specifically asked us to apply with the course work record. I had taken the full course in Nov 2007 in San Diego.

CA Dental Board informed me that my course work was done before Dec 21, 2007. So they will not give me the license. They have told me that they will hold my application for 3 months and within that period they want me to show them fresh DOCS course again....

What is my recourse? Can someone please let me know what I should do?

    Thanks

    Irina

Re: CA Dental Board Denied me Conscious Sedation License

Good timing. I just finished attending and speaking at the January 24th California Dental Board meeting in Sacramento.  No action was taken that day on this issue.  The Board staff appear to be misinterpreting the law and an apparently well-established precedent of granting retroactive course approval. I requested that the issue be placed on the March 6th agenda for Board member vote. The meeting is probably going to be held in San Diego and it would greatly help our case if past attendees from CA showed up at the meeting.  After all this time...now this.

Re: CA Dental Board Denied me Conscious Sedation License

I also received the same rejection letter.  I've been chasing this for some time now.  I'm worried about the 90 day period elapsing before they delay this thing again. Help!

Re: CA Dental Board Denied me Conscious Sedation License

As far as renewal goes, In CA what are the current rules? Renewing Your Permit
Oral Conscious Sedation Certificates for Adult Patients expire when the qualifying license expires
and must be renewed every two years. The fee for renewal is $75. The Continuing Education
requirement for renewal is seven units of approved courses related to oral conscious sedation of
adult patients. Are the 7 units in addition to the 50 units required for renewal of a CA license or can they be part of the 50 units?
